This year’s honey from Pittsboro, North Carolina is Piedmont Blooms. Piedmont Blooms tastes like a pear crème brûlée. When spinning the frames, I felt like my head was in a cloud of honeysuckle. Highly floral aroma. It's fluid. The slight almond aftertaste inspired me to make a brunch cocktail the morning after honey harvest: Honey, splash of amaretto, coffee, and heavy cream.
This year’s order form also includes my inaugural offering of propolis and an option to buy a nuc of bees.
I expect to extract honey in Western North Carolina in July or August.
Each year I choose a different organization to donate a portion of sales. This year I'll donate 10% of all sales to the American Farmland Trust (AFT). Our country, and North Carolina, are losing a devastating amount of farmland. This loss hits very close to home. A gorgeous 440-acre farm adjacent to our street will be turned into 1,200 homes over the next few years. AFT helps to protect and steward farms across the country.
Honey is available for pick up in Pittsboro, NC or can be shipped—US addresses only. Another perk for paid subscribers - free shipping on all orders smaller than a case.
If you’re not a paid subscriber, you can access the order form on my honey site starting at 7 a.m. ET on Tuesday, May 27.
What people say about my honey:
Your honey is out-of-this-world delicious! We are very privileged to have some. I can't wait to share your honey with family.
I love the poems you put on the back of your honey. I love reading them. I purchased Glue-be-Gone so that I can take them off the glass when it's empty. It's very special. I'm not sure you appreciate how special they make your honey.
In the words of my late mother-in-law: “It’s like French perfume.”
